SYMPHONY PORTFOLIO ENTRY: For my symphony portfolio, I thought it would be fun to do the activity in which Pink suggests I go to a random website and follow the links seven or eight times and see where it takes me. I will record the links and summarize what I learned on that page.
1. CartoonNetwork.com- This is the original web page of Cartoon Network- a cartoon channel owned by Ted Turner. The home page displays all the shows available on that channel and has links to learn more or play games based on whatever show you click on. I see a random link at the top labeled "Jetstream" so I click on this.
2. Jetstream- This takes me to a sight about Toonami, which is a time during the day when Cartoon Network plays nothing but Japanese style cartoons. The home page of this is a movie that automatically starts playing about a man who does the voices for various "Anime" cartoons. Frankly, this really bores me, so I move on after about two minutes of this. At the bottom of the screen I see a tiny symbol that is a link, so I click on that. I am delivered a warning that I am about to leave the site, and I continue.
3. Viz Media- This is another website featuring Jetstream and this page shows me the latest updates about the Jetstream cartoons. I read a little story about one of their characters and then move on. There is an option on the side that sparks my interest titled "The Prince of Tennis" so I go there. All of these take me to the same webpage so I return to clicking on one of the little symbols at the bottom.
4. Shonen Jump- This is yet another website about Anime cartoons which is essentially a bunch of larger than life cartoon heads on tiny little bodies, and I lose interest quickly. In desperation of trying to get away from cartoon land, I click on the most out-of-the-box thing I can find: Shojo Beat
5. Shojo Beat- Finally out of cartoon land!! My eyes are greeted with a baby pink color background..and...AND... more cartoons, though feminine this time. Luckily there are advertisements this time so that I can get out of this torturous world of Japanese cartoons.
6. Japanese Shopping! - I reach a webpage selling Japanese cosmetics and as soon as I arrive I am bombarded with a chance to when 1000 YEN!! Yesss... I scroll down and scan the fashion-forward kimonos, all of which I would die to have, and the...interesting shoes.
7. Black Peace Now- While originally I thought this might be controversial, it is actually about "making peace" with your articles of black clothing. The pictures are extremely strange. There is a thoroughly contented girl wearing a frightening to say the least outfit with a smirk on her face as she struts around in her mile-high black sneakers. As it turns out, 1000 yen does not go very far here, as a belt alone costs over 3000. Most likely this was just a marketing ploy to lure in people who don't know how much yen is really worth.
8. Individual Fashion Expo- One word: scary. These are pictures of the fashion runways in Japan currently. I was so frightened by these pictures of essentially "living dolls" that I had to leave this page at once. The model I did catch a glimpse of was wearing massive doll shoes and an oversized shirt to go with her oversized wig and really scary-looking exaggerated facial features. This was not a full body suit either, like you might see at some children's event.
So that was my journey from Cartoon Network to scary Japanese fashion show. I definitely learned to never go on any Japanese sites, as they might scare the pants off me.
